Hello, World

May 13, 2011

Yesterday-ish I accepted an invitation to serve in the Peace Corps in South Africa for a couple of years. As I understand it, getting an invitation is the hard part. Now comes the easy part of applying for a visa and a special Peace Corps passport and writing another essay and making sure everything is on time and printed legibly or else I may miss my program. I’m not going to believe that I’m in the clear and this is actually happening for sure until I land in Africa. I probably won’t even believe it then.

Throughout the application process I thought I was signing up to be a math teacher, but the job title for my assignment is Resource Specialist. I’m not really sure what that means, but according to the assignment pamphlet, it’s something about teaching. Of course, I’ll be participating in HIV/AIDS prevention as well, as all Peace Corps volunteers in Africa are required to. I guess I won’t really know what I’ll be doing until I start doing it.

Nothing interesting to say right now. Just getting this blog set up.
